Acorn under 15’s continued their unbeaten run with a tough game firstly against West Leeds and then battling against the weather..
As early as the first minute Acorns attack was dominant, rewarded when Reece Arthur running the perfect line received a pass from Jake Calam to put Acorn in front Calam converting. West Leeds soaked up immense pressure from Acorn but some strong running from Man of the Match,Tom Bedda, who was strong in defrnce snd attack today after his recent move into the forwards, opened up a gap, setting up a platform for Jacob Walker to run a good line and twisting out of two tackles squeezed over to make it 10-0.
West Leeds only ventured into Acorns half once in the first half as Acorns defence was superb led by Reece Rushworth; whose strength and desire to tackle the opposition has immense. Acorns 3rd try came from Henry Andrews scooting over from dummy half after relentless pressure again saw Acorn camped on the West Leeds line. Leaving the score 14-0 at half time.
The second half started much as the first finished until Henry Andrews caught a bomb close to his own try line, and having made good metres offloaded to Jacob Walker who then offloaded to Reef Wilson who then power through the defensive line to go 80 metres and put Acorn 20-0 up.
It was at this point that the game swung, West Leeds never gave up and their tough stance refusing Acorrn the chance to run away with the game was ably abetted by a change in the weather. Acorn found themselves playing into the wind as driving hail battered into their faces. West Leeds took advantage and two simply mistakes in defence allowed West Leeds to make 2 scores which lifted their game. With the conditions atrocious both side fought out a defensive battle for the last 15 minutes, with mistakes from both side understandable as they both fought against the elements as well as each other. Acorn held out for the win but will look forward to ‘summer rugby’.
